Are you 60 or older and interested in working with learners of English? Teaching English is a great way to travel the world or give back to your local community.
Get the training you need. The Golden ID Program provides a way for you to obtain the master’s degree (MA TESOL) or post-baccalaureate certificate (TESOL PBC) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages tuition-free!
To be eligible for the Golden ID Program you
- Must be at least 60 years old at time of registration.
- Must be an in-state resident of Maryland.
- Must be retired and not employed full-time.
Read the admission requirements. Then, submit your application for the TESOL master’s degree or post-baccalaureate certificate through the UMBC Graduate School website. You will receive more information about the Golden ID Program by e-mail after you apply.

Note: In accordance with UMBC policy, Golden ID students are eligible for “campus” TESOL study, which includes on-site, hybrid, and synchronous online courses but not asynchronous online courses offered in collaboration with the Division of Professional Studies.
